Improving fish welfare starts with the farmer

June, 2023

FAI is empowering farmers to actively contribute to the well-being of their fish. Unlike traditional top-down methods, our farmer-centric approach views welfare not as a burden but as a tool for individual farmers to identify welfare and business improvement opportunities.

To equip fish farmers with the latest scientifically based and practical knowledge, we’ve developed assessment protocols centred on the four categories of nutrition, environment, health, and behaviour. These practical tools support farmers to identify improvements they can make by observing their fish and comparing their practices to established scientific standards.
